1st Course

Openwork Plaiting with Willow Skein and Cane

with Tim Johnson

Thursday - Saturday 14th, 15th & 16th February 2019

Explore openwork plaiting techniques with willow skein and chair seating cane to create your own pockets and bags.Short or long handles and straps may be added to your design for household functionality or fashionable accessories.

2nd Course

Willow Backpacks

with Mònica Guilera

Sunday - Tuesday 17th, 18th & 19th February 2019

Learn how to create useful and beautifully designed willow backpacks combining the traditional Catalan base with skeined willow sidings and a choice of borders, willow handles and leather straps.

Course Prices: 

240 € euros per person, including 3 days tuition and basketmaking materials.
Please note leather straps for bags and backpacks will be charged extra.
Meals are not included.

You may secure your course reservation with a first payment (half the course fee which constitutes a non-returnable deposit should you cancel your attendance).

Daily programme:

Morning Session:  9.30am - 1.30 pm - Teas and coffees included

Lunch: 1.30 -15.30pm
We will take a daily 'menu' in a choice of excellent local restaurants however this is optional and not included in the course fee. Menus are usually around 12 € including three courses and wine, coffees usually extra.

Afternoon Session: 15.30 -6.00pm

Accommodation

Crossing Sticks 2019 will be hosted at a lovely venue only a couple of minutes walk from the sea shore of Vilanova I la Geltru, Catalonia, Spain, a short bus or train journey from Barcelona airport.  

Please note Crossing Sticks is a residential course and we are unable to offer course places to those who do not stay at The Hotel Cesar.

The Hotel Cesar is a family hotel with traditional ambiance, excellent teaching space and a rooftop terrace. Details of the hotel rooms are here: Hotel Cesar - however please book your Crossing Sticks 2019 course first before you book your hotel rooms to make sure you receive our special room deal!

Where:
Vilanova i La Geltru is a coastal town with good weather and a friendly pedestrian town centre. A wide variety of restaurants, cafes and bars provide ample evening entertainment and friendly outdoor spaces away from the tourism and bustle of Barcelona. 

Partners and children of workshop participants are very welcome to stay in the hotel and will find Vilanova i La Geltru a great place for a family winter break. 

Travel: 

You will need to make your own travel arrangement - Vilanova i La Geltru is situated 50km south from Barcelona and is within easy reach of Barcelona El Prat Airport.

Tools: 

If you have some basic basketmaking tools please bring these along with you - these are all fine on flights as long as you place them in the hold rather than in your hand luggage. If you are unable to bring tools we have a selection available but not necessarily a full set of everything for everyone! 

Suggested tools: knife, secateurs, bodkin, swedish fid, scissors, side cutters.
