Sticks crossed and baskets packed - thank you to our 2019 students!

Accompanied by beautiful sunny weather throughout the course and great students from Belgium, Spain, the UK and the Netherlands our first 'Crossing Sticks' event was a great success - thank you to everyone who came along and we hope to see you again soon. We are already thinking of next year and wondering what shall we teach next time?

blue sky days

We have been blessed with many clear 'blue sky days' over the past few weeks here in Vilanova i La Geltru - perfect for getting out and about for basketry photo-shoots. Yesterday I was down at the harbour with my openwork plaited baskets in preparation for my 'Crossing Sticks' course coming soon. Backpacks in the Vineyard

This week we have had some lovely sunny spells bringing out the colours in the vineyards surrounding Vilanova i La Geltru. It's a great time of year for photoshoots and we really enjoyed taking some of the backpacks Mònica will be teaching out to their 'natural habitat'! Although we can't absolutely guarantee perfect weather in February we hope we will have some sunny days and you'll enjoy some walks along the beach just minutes from our hotel venue. Crossing Sticks Workshops and Dates announced - 14th - 19th February 2019

Welcome to our new workshop venture 'Crossing Sticks - Basketmaking Winter School' in February 2019. Join us on the Mediterranean coast of Spain just 40 minutes away from Barcelona airport in our home town of Vilanova i La Geltru.

This year we offer two consecutive workshops Openwork Plaiting with Tim Johnson and Willow Backpacks with Mònica Guilera. These residential workshops are based in a lovely family run hotel just minutes from the sea shore - the perfect spot for a basketry winter break!

Openwork Plaiting with Willow Skein and Cane with Tim Johnson
Thursday - Saturday 14th, 15th & 16th February 2019

Explore openwork plaiting techniques with willow skein and chair seating cane to create your own pockets and bags.Short or long handles and straps may be added to your design for household functionality or fashionable accessories. 

Willow Backpacks with Mònica Guilera
Sunday - Tuesday 17th, 18th & 19th February 2019

Learn how to create useful and beautifully designed willow backpacks combining the traditional Catalan base with skeined willow sidings and a choice of borders, willow handles and leather straps.
